Rumänien: Piatra Craiului Main Ridge

Piatra Craiului Massif was declared as natural reserve in 1938 due to the unique character of the massif, landscape beauty and rare species like Garofita Pietrei Craiului (Dianthus callizonus) – endemic to Piatra Craiului National Park, Edelweiss (Leontopodium) or Sangele voinicului (Nigritella nigra and Nigritella rubra). On this tour we spend seven days in Piatra Craiului National Park crossing the main ridge of the most beautiful mountain in Romania and climbing it’s highest peak, La Om 2242m. Accommodation is provided in chalets and boarding houses.

Day 1. Meet at the airport and transfer to Brasov City. Accommodation: boarding house, Brasov.

Day 2. Transfer to Zarnesti Town. We start to hike through the amazing Zarnesti Gorges and up to Curmatura Chalet.
Duration: 4-5 hours.
Difficulty: low-medium effort.
Accommodation: Curmatura Chalet.

Day 3. From Curmatura Chalet we climb Turnu Peak, hike half of the Northern Ridge to Ascutit Peak and return to Curmatura Chalet.
Duration: 6-7 hours.
Difficulty: medium effort.
Accommodation: Curmatura Chalet.

Day 4. Starting from Curmatura Chalet we climb Padina Popii Peak and hike the rest of the Northern Ridge. We finish the hike descending on the La Lanturi Route to Plaiu Foii.
Duration: 8-9 hours hiking.
Difficulty: medium-high effort.
Accommodation: boarding house, Plaiu Foii.

Day 5. This day we climb back to the main ridge on the La Lanturi Route, hike the Southern Ridge and return to Plaiu Foii.
Duration: 9-10 hours.
Difficulty: medium-high effort.
Accommodation: boarding house, Plaiu Foii.

Day 6. We hike an unmarked route getting closer to the wild beauty of Piatra Craiului and descend back to Plaiu Foii.
Duration: 6-7 hours.
Difficulty: medium effort.
Accommodation: boarding house, Plaiu Foii.

Day 7. Transfer to the airport.
